Look, I know you can do it, and I know you can also screw up your tranny if you do it badly, don't tell me that. My question is how do you know when the revs are right so it won't hurt the synchro? I'm assuming it's different for every car, so anyone who's done this with an 03 Hyundai Tiburon, any help would be great. Anyone else who can do this, how do you find the right revs? Am I looking high, low, or average like 2000 to 3000?Changing gears without using the clutch pedal.?
It seems a bit unnecessary to wear your car for no reason...
But as far as giving you an rpm number, that's impossible. It depends on your speed, the gear you want to switch to, your gear ratio and a whole lot of other variables.
It's all about feeling the car, you should know the sound your car makes at different speed in different gears. Try practising by rev matching, as that doesn't destroy the synchro.
To rev match, shift out of the gear that you are in and into neutral.
Quickly rev the engine to the rpm that you think the gear you are switching into will need at your current speed.
Quickly shift into the gear that you need and let the clutch out.
If the car didn't jerk at all, you have matched the revs well. You can then move on from that to destroying your gearbox if you like.Changing gears without using the clutch pedal.?
just do it. you'll know right away if you were close or not.
i can do this all day long in trucks or cars and I never once look at the tach..its a feel or listening to the engine, dont force it.
I do not believe car trans are designed to work this way. Trucks can, cause they are designed to, but not cars. If they do, then it's news to me. Besides, are you too lazy to use the clutch anyways?
ok Never driven one but do this in my car all the time first of all its hard to start off with out clutch (but thats another question) so start off practising from 2nd to 3rd ( easy quick change, straight back) rev to probably the mid-high 2000's, now it should fall outta gear into neutral quite easily but dont smash it into 3rd now the second the gear stick moves from secondl foot off the gas now with a lil weight (try just pulling it with 2 fingers so you dont go to hard) the revs will be dropping now and the stick should just fall in when it reaches the right rev (take note of the sound the engine is making at this point dont worry about the tacho reading) now if this works you can start getting quicker with your shifts if not then rev to mid 3's and apply a lil more pressure to the stick and let the revs drop whilst you keep pullen. if i grinds stop straight away you're pullin too hard
I've done it myself and when I've started I have used a truck without synchronized gear box. It took awhile to get the grasp of it. It took a lot of gears grinding and practice. I felt good when I have managed to change without using the clutch pedal. After that, it was like a walk in the park using the technique to each manual transmission I have driven since. I did used the technique also on Tiburon models and works fine. The key is to sense the rev's of when to pull the stick out of gears and at the same time when to push the gear in (without grinding it). Its hard to explain how to do it. You have to feel it. The best advise is to physically take someone with you that knows how to do it and train you on this.

Do you know how to drive a 4-stroke motorcycle like a honda wave 100R?
i just bought a honda wave 100R yesterday. I know about the basic controls but I'm not quite sure how or when to change gears. i don't know where first gear is, the second or the neutral. i'm screwed... i don't know how to operate it.Do you know how to drive a 4-stroke motorcycle like a honda wave 100R?

What's wrong with the clutch in my car?
The clutch is only 8 months old on my 89 Toyota Corolla LE.
Sometimes, it will not change gears easily. It acts as though I am changing gears without pushing the petal down to the floor completely. But other times it works fine. This only started two days ago. I have found that pushing the clutch petal down a few different times or ways (i have size 14 feet so sometimes using the toe part of my foot to ensure it is completely down works) gets it to work, but I don't want to hold up traffic at a light or accidentally grind my gears.
If you are a mechanic I'd love to know what you think this sounds like. Should I take it in to a mechanic? How much would estimate the repair cost? It deafinatly does not need a new clutch/transmission.What's wrong with the clutch in my car?
Sounds like the hydraulics portion of your clutch actuation is leaking. Check the fluid level for you clutch. If low, then it needs filled, and then bled. Then find your leak and replace the worn part. The 2 main parts they could be are the clutch master cylinder, or the clutch slave cylinder. Them are the ones that usually go. Hope these help some. Good luck. What's wrong with the clutch in my car?
Glad it was as simple as stated. Your welcome :)
You have a hydraulic clutch in You car. I'm positive
the master cylinder of Your hydraulic clutch is not good.
hydraulic clutch master cylinder is similar to brakes master cylinder.and is beside the brakes master cylinder
Only one decent answer here. silversta got it right. You say it pumps up, that means it's hydraulic. It may need fluid, use brake fluid, or it may have air and need to be bled or you may have a leak or all of the above. Should be low cost or diy if you know how.
sounds like air in the system if it is hydraulic
did you replace the complete clutch kit with all the bearings and pressure plate and did you replace the flywheel or just have it resurfaced? These things make a difference and also what kind of driver are you? do you hotrod and burn your clutch up?
The mice in the transmission are lazy and not doing their jobs properly. Replace them with some newer version and you should be fine. Avoid the gangly type as there a mutated aliens who might probe you.

Im 16 years old and im gonna take the motorycle safety course in a week, and im worried is it hard to pass????
I have never rode a motorcycle in my life. And im gonna go out there and try to pass the class. The only thing im really worried about now is how to change gears and such. It is also the beginner course so, I really want to pass as soon as i pass that class i can buy my bike. I am gonna get the new 2008 ninja 250 so im only riding a 250 so it should be alright for me.
All im worried about is if the class is hard to pass for a true beginner?Im 16 years old and im gonna take the motorycle safety course in a week, and im worried is it hard to pass????
no its designed for people like you. You will do fine. just dont get too cocky with it and pay attention all the time. Oh and let me add after reading the response above me, That guy doesnt know anything and shouldnt be talking. The safety course was made to teach you how to ride, they expect you to know nothing at all and build you up from there. When I went to the safety course one of the first things was going over the differences between cars and motorcycles. Pretty easy huh? ok sign up for the course be open minded and learn everything you can. Oh and the part where they teach you not to steer above 10mph is very true!! HAVE FUN!Im 16 years old and im gonna take the motorycle safety course in a week, and im worried is it hard to pass????
The clsaa will be set up for someone that has never riden so just relax stay calm and pay attention to you instructer you will do just fine. Good luck and welcome to the wonderful world of riding you will love it
They say beginner and they mean beginner it shouldn't be too bad at all
The class is designed to test your ability to control the motorcycle. I would not advice you to take any driving test if you've never driven a bike before.
It's no different than your driving test for a car. You must show sufficient ability to handle the car in order to pass the test. It would be almost impossible for someone who's never driven a car to pass a driving test. Same for the motorcycle test. You've got to get some experience on the bike before you can pass the test.

When my car changes gears while accelerating, it clunks and lurches....?
It started just today. In fact, if I have it in ';neutral'; and I put it in ';drive'; with the hood open, you can physically see the engine move a bit... What the hec is going on?
I'll take it to a mechanic, but I'm just wondering what this could be and how much it'll run me? It's a 2004 Saturn L300.
Also, this is before my schedule says I should change the transmission fluid, so I don't think it's that. When my car changes gears while accelerating, it clunks and lurches....?
Throttle Position Sensor Bad causing RPMs to be too high.
Transmission Fluid %26amp; Filter need to be changed and Transmission Flushed. ';But 2004'; Doesn't sound right, Hard driving or high Mileage? could account for it!
Torque Converter Went bad.
Cost all depends what they find wrong! When my car changes gears while accelerating, it clunks and lurches....?
sounds like a defective transmission mount.
You need your engine mounts replaced. You probably have hydraulic engine mounts and they're worn out. That why you see the engine moving, and hear the clunking.
Defintiely sounds like a rubber mount has broken on the engine or gearbox. It's not a disaster by an means and it's worth having a look to check if it is not just the bolt holding the mount that has come undone. There are usually 3 mounts on the engine and the most common one to give up is the one at the front at the bottom of the engine. Engine mounts only cost $20 and might take an hour or two to fit.

Why the RPM hangs up when changing gears?
i have a 2002 ford focus svt, and when i'm driving the RPM hangs up for 2 seconds between gears and it goes slitly up before it goes down , although my foot is totally off the gas.. does anyone know what the problem is and how to make the rpm goes down faster??
i appreciate your help and thanks guys!

Why the RPM hangs up when changing gears?
=if you listen to your engine=the tach is right=they don't go to ';instant ';idle==try it in your driveway=give her some gas then let off and you Will see what i meanWhy the RPM hangs up when changing gears?
The computer does this to cut down on unburned hydrocarbons, set to do this at the factory....
Sophie B is correct!

Changing gear without stepping on clutch when the car is off?
Sorry to ask this but i'm just a tad bit worried. My friend and I was sitting in my car waiting for another friend and my friend decided to play with my manual stick shift. He shifted it in a couple of gears before I could tell him to stop. I was wondering with my car off and without having my foot on the clutch can this gear shifting damage the car? I know the basics behind how a clutch works but not sure how it works when the car is not turned on.Changing gear without stepping on clutch when the car is off?
minscule damage. whoever drives will probably do more damage through thier gear changes while driving than you will fiddling with the shift lever while the engine is stopped.Changing gear without stepping on clutch when the car is off?
No damage.
nothing to worry about thats how i learned to find the positions of my gears
it wont hurt anything unless you start the car that way then that can cause problems
It will not damage anything.
