There is a fill plug in the side of the case. Remove it and stick your finger or a bent length of insulated wire in to check for fluid. The proper amount is up to the bottom of the hole. If the clutch is out of adjustment you will need to replace some linkage parts. I wouldn't bother with junk yard parts. They will be worn too.

How do you check the transmission fluid in a 1978 GMC Sierra?
I have a 1978 GMC Sierra with manual shift transmission and I need to push the clutch all the way to the ground before it changes gears. Do I just need tranny fluid?
