I just low sided my bike at about 40-45mph, what kinda damage do you check for on the bike?

I ride a 1997 ninja zx-6 and this is not my first low side, but i dont realli know much about checking for mechanical and technical things. I checked over major areas like the clutch cover, etc. and there are no leaks. The bike does start and changes gears, but there seems to be something off and can't quite figure it out. Also there seems to be something off with the alighnment of the bike and suspension. How do you check for these errors and other errors. Is there a checklist or something. I would rather not have to take it into the shop unless necessary because it gets rather expensive. First, realise that either YOU are the judge or a professional is - but they can make mistakes, and its your body on the line. Either way is a risk - the size may vary!



If you want to do it yourself then I recommend:



1. Take bodywork off and look over it carefully for frame damage.

2. Line up the wheels with your eyes - look for it all being straight. I would check it with a string-line, and you should be able to find a site on-line telling youhow to do this.

3. Get each wheel in the air - check it spins freely, and that the brake grips firmly %26amp; smoothly.

4.Try to move the wheel by pulling the top to one side and pulling the bottom in the opposite direction - check BOTH ways - it should be solid.

5. Check oil, cables, fuekllines etc before running motor.

6. Check / Clean air filter.

7. Ride it - slowly - feel for anything wrong - check brakes, steering, suspension at very low, then low speed as you ride.

check your clutch cable adjustment, and take your hands off the bars at speed and see if it tracks straight or wants to go one way or the other. also, lock your front brakes at a stop and push back and forth real quick and see if you hear clicking.

Simple answer....if you want to be safe take it to a dealer that has either no fee estimate or a low cost estimate for repairs. They will find everything because they want your money and your business. After you get that you will know mechanically what is wrong with your bike and if it nothing serious you can make the repairs.
If you bent the forks or the swing-arm,

and not the frame, (unlikely),

maybe you can replace them.

Look for a bent wheel.

If you bent the frame, she's totaled.
