What's wrong with the clutch in my car?

The clutch is only 8 months old on my 89 Toyota Corolla LE.

Sometimes, it will not change gears easily. It acts as though I am changing gears without pushing the petal down to the floor completely. But other times it works fine. This only started two days ago. I have found that pushing the clutch petal down a few different times or ways (i have size 14 feet so sometimes using the toe part of my foot to ensure it is completely down works) gets it to work, but I don't want to hold up traffic at a light or accidentally grind my gears.

If you are a mechanic I'd love to know what you think this sounds like. Should I take it in to a mechanic? How much would estimate the repair cost? It deafinatly does not need a new clutch/transmission.What's wrong with the clutch in my car?
Sounds like the hydraulics portion of your clutch actuation is leaking. Check the fluid level for you clutch. If low, then it needs filled, and then bled. Then find your leak and replace the worn part. The 2 main parts they could be are the clutch master cylinder, or the clutch slave cylinder. Them are the ones that usually go. Hope these help some. Good luck. What's wrong with the clutch in my car?

You have a hydraulic clutch in You car. I'm positive

the master cylinder of Your hydraulic clutch is not good.

hydraulic clutch master cylinder is similar to brakes master cylinder.and is beside the brakes master cylinder
Only one decent answer here. silversta got it right. You say it pumps up, that means it's hydraulic. It may need fluid, use brake fluid, or it may have air and need to be bled or you may have a leak or all of the above. Should be low cost or diy if you know how.
sounds like air in the system if it is hydraulic
did you replace the complete clutch kit with all the bearings and pressure plate and did you replace the flywheel or just have it resurfaced? These things make a difference and also what kind of driver are you? do you hotrod and burn your clutch up?
The mice in the transmission are lazy and not doing their jobs properly. Replace them with some newer version and you should be fine. Avoid the gangly type as there a mutated aliens who might probe you.
