How to unstick a clutch?

The clutch on my 92 Honda Accord is stuck. It will not release, you can change gears, if it is not running. I just came out one morning and the pedal was on the floor. How do I get it to release?How to unstick a clutch?
if the pedal is on the floor then you have no hydraulic pressure in the clutch system.



The clutch on your car is hydraulic and uses a master cylinder similar to the brake master cylinder to transfer the mechanical energy of your stepping on the clutch pedal to the hydraulic fluid in the clutch line and down to the slave cylinder on the transmission housing. the slave cylinder moves in response to the hydraulic force and pushes the clutch fork to release the clutch.



the first thing to do is to check the level of the hydraulic fluid. the clutch uses the DOT3 brake fluid as the hydraulic fluid. You check the fluid at the clutch master cylinder which is below the brake master cylinder. Look on the engine wall where the clutch pedal would be and you'll see it. if the fluid is low as I suspect, top it up. then pump the clutch pedal (use your hand to lift it initiallty if necessary) to bleed the air out. the pedal should start to come up and build force. if it doesn't then you need to bleed the air out at the slave cylinder, but in most cases it will pump up. when you get a firm pedal then you'll need to find out where the fluid went. it doesn't just disappear, it leaks. so the likely suspects for a leak would be the clutch master or slave cylinders.



if the clutch master cylinder is full of fluid then you have a condition where the fluid is bypassing the piston inside the clutch master cylinder. in that case, you have no option but to replace the cylinder. Most technicians chose to replace the master and slave cylinders at the same time.
