Can't change the car's gear... clutch problem...?

my car is over 20 years old and recently when I push the clutch, it has no resistance..... I have to start the engine and then push the clutch for some hundred times then it gets normal.... but still very hard to change gear... Everytime after I stop the engine, the clutch gets bad again.... so I have to push the clutch for some hundred times again to get the car running... I am a stupid in car engineering.... anybody can tell me the reason?? Can I fix it myself or do I need some help?? How much will it cost then??

PS: If I drive for long time, the clutch works as normal...Can't change the car's gear... clutch problem...?
Have a mechanic look at it.

It could be a hydraulic clutch or a bad cable or just a bad clutch or throw out bearing.

At any rate it is not safe, and if you have never worked on a clutch, i'd suggest not trying to do it without the help of a mechanic.Can't change the car's gear... clutch problem...?

I had a dodge van, and it was doing just what yours is doing.

I had to replace the clutch disk, clutch plate, polot and throw out bearings.



Yah it was a bit of a bite in the wallett, but after words, brought back the fun of driving it again.
Clutch is most likely wearing out and needs bled, if it is a hydraulic clutch. Otherwise you may need a new clutch, based on the age of your vehicle. Good Luck. :)
Sounds like it might be the clutch master cylinder. I had an Eclipse that had one go bad on me. You have to pump it a bunch of times and then finally, it catches and you feel resistance in the pedal and the clutch works? If that's the case, I'd put my money on clutch master cylinder. Also, make sure the reserve for the clutch is full, maybe you sucked air into the system and it just needs to be bled. AND, if you don't have a hydraulic clutch, disregard everything I just said.
well it depends if it is a hydralic or cable clutch. It sounds like hydraulic. I had a grand am that would do basicly the same thing. It was the master cylinder, i replaced it and put a hole in the clutch line, took me about a week to fix and about $150. I would go to a garage and ask them to look at the master cylinder, and if its bad replace it. Id say 150 for labor and parts.
I guess what you're experiencing is a problem with your clutch cable. There is also a pump inside the transmission that starts working upon startup. What you need to do is have a mechanic look at it because it would be tto difficult for you to do on your own.
