How do you drive a manual transmission car?

How do you know how or when to hit the gas and remove the clutch? how do you change gears?How do you drive a manual transmission car?
Watch the tac on the car, typically if your driving nice you'll shift around 2.5 - 3 RPM's. (By which I mean 2500-3000). Then release the gas and press the clutch to the floor and shift into the next gear, let of the clutch and press the gas lightly and at the same time you are letting out the clutch.

To shift the gear in the top left corner is first, straight down is 2nd, up to the right just a little (more center) is 3rd and then down to 4th, all the way up to the right is 5th and down is reverse. Some cars are 6 speeds however or vary in another way.

P.S there are some Youtube videos that does a better job than written words.
It's a case of balancing the revs.
Too complicated to explain in words. You need a lesson or 2 from a driving school or at the very least get a friend to show you.

Driving a stick is really easy. All you do to start out, is find where your clutch starts to grab, then give the car some revs, and slowly feather out the clutch. When you want to shift to second, or any other gear while moving, press the clutch and take your foot off the gas, shift, then off the clutch and back on the gas. The shift pattern on my VW GTI is reverse- top left next to first

1st- top left

2nd- straight down from first

3rd- middle at the top

4th- straight down from 3rd

5th- next to third gear

Some cars have 6 gears and are arranged differently, but its all basically the same. Good luck!
