My car jerks when I change gears. what could it be? and how much would it cost to repair?

i drive a ford exploxer 2003..................My car jerks when I change gears. what could it be? and how much would it cost to repair?
Is it a manual or an automatic transmission? Could be any number of things from Transmission fluid being low, dirty trans filter, leaking seals, sticking accumulator, bad selenoid etc...

If it is something minor, then the cost will not be too bad.

Sounds like clutch problems (it is a manual, right?) If in fact it's an auto and you mean switching from N to D or to R then often this is wear on the selector forks.

Either way you need a mechanic to check it out.
You have two options:

1. Don't change gears.

2. Get an estimate from a mechanic.
