The front gears on my bike are broken! How do I fix them?

When i shift gears, the little metal bar only shifts a little, not enough to change gears. This makes my chain fall off quite often.The front gears on my bike are broken! How do I fix them?

If the front derailleur does not move enough when you shift, the problem is likely that your cable has stretched or moved causing it not to have its intended effect. Try loosening the cable and pulling it tighter. Also try adjusting the barrel adjuster to create more cable tension.
